The 2018 Men's Hockey World Cup was the 14th.edition of Hockey World Cup, organized by FIH (Federation Internationale De Hockey) , was held from 28th. November to 16th. December 2018, at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. The Inauguration Ceremony was held on 27th. November 2018.

BIDDING

In March 2013, One month after FIH published the event assigned process document for 2014-18 cycle, Australia, Belgium, India, Malaysia and New Zealand were shortlisted as candidates for hosting the event and were asked to submit bidding documentation but Belgium did not meet. In addition to one month before the Host Election, Australia withdrew their application due to Technical and Financial reasons. India was announced as Host on 7th. November 2013, during a special ceremony in Lausanne,Swizerland.

Opening Ceremony


Music Maestro A.R. Rahman was collaborating with Shah Rukh Khan for the anthem of the tournament. They also performed Live at the Opening Ceremony of the World Cup on 27th. November 2018 in Bhubaneswar and World Cup Inaugural extension programme at Barabati Stadium on 28th. November 2018. Actress Madhuri Dixit Nene also performed at the Opening Ceremony of the Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup 2018 on 27th. November at Bhubaneswar. Similarly, Salman Khan also joined the Hockey World Cup Celebration event at Barabati Stadium on 28th. November 2018.

The Venue, Kalinga Stadium, was built in 1978.In 2018, the Stadium's capacity has been expanded for the World Cup from 9,000 to 15,000 by adding two more galleries.
An additional of 50,000 - 1,00,000 tourists came in this season for this tournament.All Hotel Rooms in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack and Puri have been booked.The State Government has introduced 300 Buses for three cities, which the Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik inaugurated at Bhubaneswar.

World Cup Highlights

Organized by the FIH, it was the 14th edition of the Hockey World Cup, held from 28 November to 16 December 2018, at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India.  
The 2018 Men's Hockey World Cup concluded this month with Belgium becoming the new world champions after winning a nail-biting penalty shootout against the Netherlands.                                 
The hosts India led by Manpreet Singh finished top of Pool C after defeating South Africa 5-0, and Canada 5-1, while also managing a draw against Belgium to earn direct qualification berth for the Quarterfinal.They faced an unfortunate 1-2 defeat against the Netherlands in the quarters to crash out of the Hockey World Cup. However, the overall performance of the young side was praised by the hockey experts.
